Suki: Today, we would like to introduce you a
story book called “ Bears can’t fly.” by Val Biro.
Tinkie: Little Brown Bear looked up into the
forest trees and he wanted to be a bird. “Now wouldn’t be lovely to fly about
and sing all day,” “All I need is a beak, some wings and feathers,” he thought.
Suki: First he found the odd-job man who lived
at the edge of the forest to make him the wings just like two kites on his
back. But when he asked the birds including the most talented Owl whether he
was a bird or not now, the birds laughed louder than ever and told him that he
can’t be a bird with wings without feathers.
Tinkie: Then, Little Brown Bear went to find the
tailor to make him some feathers. The tailor made a coat out of some spare hat
feathers for him.
Suki: “I am a bird now! I have got feathers.” cried
Little Brown Bear. Owl shook his head. “You haven’t got a beak!” Owl hooted.
Tinkie: After that, Little Brown Bear climbed to
the top of the tree broke off a piece of hollow branch for his beak.
Suki: He then asked the birds again. Owl just said,
“But tell me this. Can you fly?” Little Brown Bear climbed up the rock, spread
his arms, closed his eyes, took a deep breath and jumped.
Tinkie: Poor Little Brown Bear fell in a pile of
leaves and rolled over and over…
Suki: What happened then? Did he get hurt?
What lesson did Little Brown Bear learn? Maybe you should read it yourself.
Tinkie: We like this book because of the easy and
simple language that the writer has used to capture the characters’ feelings.
Suki &
Tinkie: This is the end of our sharing today. Thank you!
